ALLEGED THEFT.

CONTENTS OF POSTAL PACKET. YOUNG MAN REMANDED. On remand, Alexander Hazlett, of Methven, a labourer, came before Mr R. Clark, J.P., in the Ashburton Police Court yesterday on charges of theft and detaining a postal packet containing £3„ the property of the Postmaster-General, which was to have been delivered to another person, at Winch more, on February 25. Senior-Serh'cant" H. Martin applied for a further remand till Wednesday. Accused was represented by Mr J. W. M. Dart, who applied for bail.

Accused was remanded, bail being allowed in accused's own recognisance of £SO. He was ordered to report daily to the police at Methven.
