Almazian, who has been six months in prison, despite the fact that it had long been plain that there was no evidence of his guilt, has been re--16 Meanwhile the clamour in the French Press is increasing against third degree methods. „ . _ , The Police Committee of the French Chamber of Deputies to-day adopted a Bill limiting the power of the police over individual liberty, including preventive detention, domiciliary searches, etc. The Committee also called on the Government to introduce onotnei Bill to deal with the arbitrary arrests and investigation of crime by so-called scientific methods. The police have no clue as to tne murderer of Itegaudin.
Cable messages from Paris in October last reported that Frederick Regaudin. an accountant, was murdered and his body found in a wicker trunk at the Nord station at Lille on September 13. It was known that he was the lover of Mine. Ilmazian, a pretty young Parisienne, and the husband was arrested and subjected to 48 hours’ relentless third degree methods in the hope of obtaining a confession.
