REDUCED DEFENCE ESTIMATES. EXTRAVAGANCE IN THE PAST. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The Government has decided to cut next year's Defence estimates by at least £500,000. It is stated that the Department has been run too extravagantly, and that big savings can be effected without affecting the personnel. REDUCTIONS IN AIR FORCE. (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The Government will reduce the Air Force estimated expenditure by onefifth. It is admitted that the dismissal of one-third of the officers and men is imminent.
