FIRE IN SYDNEY.
LARGE BLOCKS ENDANGERED. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 8.55 a.m.) .SYDNEY, This Day. A fire that broke out in the premises of Harris Bros., drapers, in George Street, city, about 4 o’clock this morning, spread rapidly and endangered large shopping blocks in George and Goulburn Streets. The flames leapt high into the ail'. Firemen from every city station were still fighting the flames at a late hour. BRIGADES EFFECT A GOOD SAVE. PARKING AREA CHECKS FLAMES SYDNEY, This Day. Firemen from eight brigades effected, a £ood save, being assisted by the fact that a car parking area prevented the flames spreading along the block. Harris’s premises were gutted and adjoining shops suffered badly from water.
The damage will run into many thousands sterling.
