NINTH PLANET.
REPORTED DISCOVERY. PROBABLY LARGER THAN EARTH (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) NEW YORK, March 13. A message from Cambridge states that Professor Harlow Shapley (Director of Harvard Observatory) announced to-day that advice from the Lowell Observatory at Flagstaff (Arizona) reported the discovery of a ninth planet in the solar system beyond Neptune. The planet is probably larger than the earth, but smaller than Uranus. Neptune, the outermost and largest planet of the system, has a mean distance from the sun of 2791.6 million miles. The earth has a diameter at the equator of 7917.6 miles, and Uranus a diameter of 31,900 miles.
