BRISBANE SOLICITOR'S OFFENCE. FOURTEEN YEARS IN GAOL. (United Press Association—Copyright.) BRISBANE, March 13. Robert McCowan, a well-known solicitor, who was convicted on several charges of theft of clients' funds, was sentenced to fourteen years' imprisonment. Mr Justice Macrossan described McCowan as an utterly unprincipled and unscrupulous man. His conduct had struck a .serious blov/ at the honour of the legal profession, but the public had no grounds for panic. The judge made the suggestion for strengthening the safeguards under the Trust Accounts Act. It was stated that McCowan's liabilities amounted to £34,000.
