COUNT VON TIRPITZ. (United Press Association —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) BERLIN, March 6. Count von.. Tirpitz, who was head of the German Navy during the Great War, has. died at Munich. VISCOUNT GLADSTONE. LONDON, March 6. Viscount Gladstone is dead, aged 75,. Herbert John, first Viscount Gladstone, was the youngest son of the late Mr William Ewart Gladstone, the oreat Liberal statesman. Educated at Eton and Oxford, be entered Parliament in 1880 as Liberal member for Leeds West, which he represented till ,1910. He held several Ministerial appointments. His Cabinet offices included. First Commissioner of Works 1894-5, and Home Secretary 1900-iU. He was appointed first Governor-Gen-eral of South Africa in 1910 (when-he was raised to the peerage), holding that office for four years. He organised successfully the relief of Belgian refugees in the early part of the war. Ho published a. memoir of his nephew, W. G. C. Gladstone, M.P., in 1918. He defended, his father’s memoij successfully in a libel case in 1927, and published reminiscences of William Ewart Gladstone in 1928.
