LADIES’ HOCKEY.

MATCHES ON SATURDAY. The Ashburton Ladies’ Hockey Association’s competitions were advanced a further stage on Saturday when the grounds were in excellent order and weather conditions were good. Senior .Grade. Rakaia met Tinwald at Tinwald and were defeated after a rather one-sided game by twelve goals to one. The back ranks of the Rakaia were weakened by the absence of Miss D. Stubbs. While Tinwald combined well, their opponents rambled throughout the game in consequence of which there was not a good display. Scores for Tinwald were obtained by K. Bell 3, B. Millichamp 7, R. Hockings 1, and M. Forsyth 1. E. Shannon scored for ltakaia.

Playing at Methven, the home team defeated High School by seven goals to three, after a good open game. High School improved! in the second spell, but Methven held a slight advantage throughout. The first spell ended 4-1. Goals were scored for Methven by I. Dalton (4) and J. Burrows 2 and D. Brown 1. F. Gudsell secured the goals for School. Mr C. Bishop was referee.

Junior A Grade. Playing at Lowcliffe, Old Girls B drew with the home team, the scores being one goal each. D. Cambridge scored for Old Girls and F. Tait for the home team. Miss M. Fulton was referee Mayfield, playing at Ashburton, defeated Baring Square B by three goals to one in a good even game. B. Richardson scored three goals for the winners, while N. Marsden obtained one for Baring Square. Mr R. B. Tinsley was referee. Baring Square A scored a decisive win over High School B at Ashburton by 17 goals to nil. Mr J. Cook controlled the match. Junior B Grade. Rakaia, on the Domain, defeated Hinds by eight goals to nil, after a well-contested game. Mr J. Cook was referee.

Playing at Ashburton, Old Girls A defeated High School A by ten goals to nil. Mr M. Baker was referee.
