OBITUARY.

MR ALFRED JAMES KEITH. The death occurred at nis residence, Faiiton, yesterday, of Mr Alfred James Keith, a well-known resident of the Comitv for many years. : Born in Australia 68'years ago, Mr Keith came to New Zealand with his parents when he was a lad, and assisted his father in farming pursuits in Taranaki. Later he removed to Christchurch, where he was engaged n farm- j ing on Lincoln Road, remaining there for many years. Twenty-seven years agcr Mr Keith came to Ashburton with his! family, and settled in the town. He purchased a farm at Winchmore, and this he had conducted in conjunction with his son uo to the time of his .death. About " five months ago Mr Keith removed to Fairton. ' # Mr Keith was a noted horseman in his day, and his stock was known throughout the South Island. When he was a boy he rode many winners at race meetings, one outstanding performance of his being the riding of seven winning horses at one meeting. Mr Keith did not take part in any local body work in the County, ibut he took an active interest in the"progress of the district. His death will be regretted by a very wide circle of friends. . He leaves a widow and five children (Mrs Percy Wareing, of Fairlie; Mrs Alec. Morrison, of Martinborough; Mrs" Duncan Morrison, of Hmakura; Miss Dolly Keith, of Fairton; and Mr Rayeny Keith, of Fairton). Mr Keith's mother, who resides at Auckland, is 91 years of age. '
