THE POLAR FLIGHT
A PESSIMISTIC VIEW. (Per Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, June 3. In announcing the abandonment of the Liverpool Polar expedition. Commander Worsley, who captained Bhackelton's Endurance and Quest, states that he is trying to get an aeroplane as quickly as possible to search for Amundsen, but he thinks Amundsen's outlook is bad.
ELLSWORTH'S FATHER DEAD. ROME, June 3. The American coal magnate, Mr Ellsworth, who financed Amundsen's flight, died at Florence. It is believed his death was largely due to anxiety over his son, who accompanied Amundsen. SYSTEMATIC SEARCH PLANNED. OSLO, June 3. Systematic plans have been drawn up for the search for Amundsen. Two Norwegian naval aeroplanes are being equipped with wireless to operate from S-vitebergen towards the east of Greenland. The French explorer, Charcot, will probably be requested to search the east coast of Greenland, and *be MacMillan expedition will work from Cape Columbia to Etah.
