NEW ZEALAND UNION. ANNUAL MEETING.

WELLINGTON, April 30. The annual meeting of the N.Z. Rugby Union began this afternoon. There was a large number of delegates preBent. The president (Mr Frost) occupied the chair. Rugby visits to New South Wales were discussed. The question arose when the adoption of a proposal to send a team to New South AVales this year arose. It was suggested the team should not include players who hatl toured England. A proposal that New South Wales be offered a Maori team was lost by 36 votes to 30, and the original arrangements were agreed to. After discussion it was agreed that notice of motion for the next annual meeting should be given to revert to the old rule to play the holder for the Ranfurly Shield on the holder's own ground. . Mr Grey (Auckland) moved that m future, reinstated players should be eligible for a New Zealand team. This was carried. . The president, congratulating the All Blacks on their wonderful record and exemplary conduct, said he thought the union should take the opportunity of recognising the services of the manager, Mr S. S. Dean, who had been an ideal man for the position. On the suggestion of Mr Dean, it was decided to present the cup donated by the residents of Vancouver for the inter-Island match. It was also decided to present a trophy for competition among the Vancouver clubs. Officers were elected as follow:—Patron, the Governor-General; president, Mr H. H. Running at Los Angeles, Nurmi, the Finn, broke a 30-year-old record for a mile and a half, which he run m 6min 42 2-ssec, four seconds better than that of Tommy Coneff. Nurmi also bettered the one and a quarter mile and the 2000 yards world's marks in the same race Willie Plant, United States walking champion, made a new world's record for 2000 metres, doing the distance in lOmin 38sec.
