THE WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP.

WANGANUI, October 29. Although the sculling race between Arnst and Hadfield for the championship of the world will not be decided for nine or ten weeks indications are not wanting already that keen interest will be taken m the contest. Since his arrival here Darey Hadfield has been m steady training, doing light land work daily and putting m one. and sometimes two rows per day. Yesterday he had a couple of rows, covering the full distance of three and a quarter miles m. the afternoon at a solid pace, striking about twenty-five to the minute throughout. It was a satisfactory row and pleased those who witnessed it. It is certain there will be a lot of money for Hadfield on the day, as he has many friends here and many good judges have been much impressed with his showing on the river so far. He recoived word by cable from George Towns yesterday that his new boat had been shipped for .Wellington. Hadfield is being paced by Archie Sharpe, who is just the man for the job. The articles have not yet been signed, but it is anticipated that everything will be definitely arranged within a day or two. Arnst continues to do long steady work m the boat, usually rowing twice a day over about fourteen miles each time, generally at the rate of 20 or 21 to the minute. His boat runs along nicely, and his long sweeping strokes appear to have plenty of power m them. He has no pace-maker nor trainer. He scales 15st 41b stripped, but reckons to row at 13st 71b. He anticipates no trouble m getting down, to that weight by the day without weakening himself. In addition to his rowing Arnst puts m a lot of walking daily. The prospects are that the race will prove one of the most interesting and closely contested ever seen here.
