MT. SOMERS.

Somewhat unfavourable and wintry conditions prevailed on Friday evening for the welcome home to Sergeant W. Berron, H. Gifkins, Corporal C. Bood and Private L. King, in the Mt Somers Hall, although a rather large and representative gathering assembled from the surrounding district, resulting in a most successful and enjoyable function. Mr J. T. Bull presided. First class music was supplied by Mesdames E C. Woods, J. Tomlinsou, T. Randle, and Miss Collins. Mr B. Morgan capably officiated as M.C. During the evening the Rev. A. J. Potrie, in the course of a most excellent address, detailed the various reinforcements each one of the guests had joined, relating several of the most important battles they had fought in, and especially commending them for the loyal part they had rendered to achieve the success of our arms. Sergeant Gifkins, in replying, related several of his experiences during tho war, especially commending the noble work of the V.M.C.A. and other patriotic institutions. Sergeant Berron and -Private King also very suitably responded. Mr Potrie said that Corporal C. Bood was unable to be present, having taken up business in the North Island, and called upon Mrs W. Bood to receive an address certificate on his behalf. , , „ , Supper was freely partaken ot and dancing resumed to the early hours of morning. „■> ±. There was a very large attendance at the weekly meeting of the' Men's Club on Tuesday evening. Mr W. Going was voted the chair. The business ot the evening was a question box, and an enjoyable evening was spent. It was arranged to have a debate for the two following weeks, and a "Breach of Promise Case" three weeks hence.
