MAYFIELD.

Tlxo annual meeting of the Mayfield Sports Club was hold in tho Band Hall. There was a good attendance, and the chair was taken by Mr D. 0. Sewcll, Chairman of the Sports Club. The balance-sheet showed that the. Club was in a nourishing condition, as this year again> showed a. substantial credit balance over tiie year's expenditure.' The .chairman, after reviewing the main points of the balance-sheet, said the time had now come for the Club to take the matter seriously in hand of trying to secure a more suitable piece of ground than the present one in. the sale-yards ground. He strongly advocated that an effort be made to .secure at least 10 acres of ground near to Mayfield on which to form a, permanent recreation ground. He contended that the. Club was in a position financially strong enough to make a purchase. Mr C. W. Withell and Mr R. Oakley each endorsed Mr Sewell's suggestion and at the same time commending the matter to the serious consideration of all the members of the incoming committee.

The election of the new committee resulted in the election of the old committee out of 17 nominations:— Messrs D. 0. Sewell, M. Sewell, R. Oakley, C. W. Withell, J. Molvor. J. Murdoch, J. EHery, W. Robertson, I>. Duff, L. Frost, and L. Oakley. The following officers were elected:— Chairman, Mr James Murdoch; secretary, Mr M. Sewell; treasurer, Mr R. Oakley; caretaker of yards, Mr C. W. WitheH.

It was decided, on the casting vote of the chairman, to revive the sports which had fallen off on account of the war, and to hold, if possible, a meeting about next Roster. At the close of the Sports' Club meeting, a number of gentlemen held a preliminary meeting with reference to the forming, of a Miniature Rifle Club in Mayfield. Mr W. Robertson introduced the subject, and received very hearty support from those present. It was decided to hold a public meeting at an early date to form a committee, and get the club started as soon as possible.
