ASHBURTON DORCAS SOCIETY.

The 21st annual meeting of the Ashburton Dorcas Society was held in the Wakanui Road Board's office yesterday afternoon. Tho Mayor (Mr Robert Gnlbraith) presided, and there was a good attendance of ladies. The Chairman congratulated the Society on the good work it was doing in the district, and expressed his appreciation of the assistance being; given to the needy cases of dis-1 tress. The annual report showed that 28 meetings had been held during the rear, and that 198 garments had lx%en distributed, as well as 51 pairs of socks and stockings, 27 singlets, j>nd 10 blankets. Tho garments made during tho year had totalled 209. Sixteen cases had been financially helped, p.v.d boots and coal had been given in other instances. The balance-sheet showed a, credit balance. The report and balance-sheet were ad'n>ted. Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elerted as follows:—President, Mrs. F. B. Standish; vice-presidents, Mesdames M. Friedlander, A. Curtis, F. Ferriman, J. E. Trevor, and \V. McClurg; secretary, Mrs M. Friedlander ; assistant-secretary, Miss Friedl.incW; treasurer, Mrs R. Friedlander. All the above were re-elected. Mrs F.
