THE WEATHER
Since tho coainumoement of the rain ou Sunday, nearly one mch —or, to be precise, 88. point*—has been registered by the instrument in the Domam. Last night's addition was Four points: Today the weather showed signs of-clear-ing. In the early forenoon hours there- were a good many rain clouds hanging about, but by'the luncheon hours a good expanse of blue sky was visible. The beneficial effect .of the .mqis'ture on the countryside cannot .be "overestimated. The, ' nun will soften tho soil of grass paddocks, which up to the present has been very hard and dry, making ploughing difficult. • Feed for stock was also exceedingly scarce.
Mr Bates telegraphed, to-day that the indications are for south-easterly winds, .' moderate to strong. The weather appears likely to bo cloudy and unsettled at times. with coastal' showers. .; Barometer unsteady, with a rising, tendency.
