ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.

TINWALD YARDS. TUESDAY, JUNE Bth. The ordinary weekly stock sale was only moderately attended; those present consisted chiefly of buyers, and vendors, with only a sprinkling of farmers of a speculative turn of mind. The total entries included 1728 fat lambs, 652 fat ewes, 112 fat wethers, 933 mixed classes of store sheep, and 24 head of cattle. SHEEP. Fat Pens,—Despite the large entry m the fat department, export buyers and butchers secured the total entry with one exception, and it is understood that this line of 265 lambs was subsequently sold privately. Prime ewes and wethers sold at slightly better i values than those ruling for the pasti fortnight, but prices for lines of medium quality showed a slight decline on late rates, when the increasing value of skins is taken into consideration. The yarding of lambs was large, and m a 1 number of cases, as the prices obtained will indicate, lines were offered m forward condition only. Competition was not so keen as it was the previous week, and prices showed a decline of from 6d to 9d per head. The top price was 14s 2d for a line of ,170, whileat last week's sale 15s 2d was obtained for a line of 105 and 14s 9d for another line of 41. In' the absence of finishing-off feed, farmers realise that it is prudent to sell at lower f>rices when their stock is anything ike fat, rather than keep them on hand to deteriorate as the frosts lessen the supplies of feed. The following are sales: Ewes.—B .. three-quarterbred ewes 9s, 14 half bred 7s Id, 46 threequarterbreds at 7s lid, 12 halfbreds at 4s 6d, 85 three-quarterbreds at 9s 7d, 38 halfbreds at 8s 4d, 12 do at 6s 6d. 24 three-quarterbreds at 8s 7d, 19 halfbreds at 9s 3d, 20 do at 8s Bd, 28 do at 'Js Id, 14. do at 8s 9d, 1 do at 10s 3d. 83 half and three-quarterbreds at 8s lid, 15 three-quarterbreds at 8s 9d, 57 do at 9s 3d, 21 half and threequarterbreds at 8s lOd, 81 do at Bs, 0 halfbreds ,(pnmo) 12s, 9 halfbreds at 9s lid. Store Pens.—Little or no attention was directed to the few lines 1 of store sheen "penned for sale, and the small yarding did not furnish any real idea of the tone of the market. Sales were as follows. 101 three-quarterbred hoggets (mixed sexes) 9s 3d, 75 halfbred wether hoggets at 8s 3d, 212 failingmouth . half and three-quarterbred and two E.Ti. rams 6s, 160 2-tooth half and three-ouartebred owes 15s fid, 78 two and four-tnnth half and three-quarterbred ewes 15s 3d. CATTLE. There was a|total entry of twentyone head of cattle and three calves m the cattJe pens, including six head of fats. Competition, taken as a whole, was not brisk, but nevertheless the entry, with two exceptions, was sold. Fat Pens,—The supply of fat cattle was not'by any means iequal to the demand, and notwithstanding that the six head * penned were of only medium quality, prices obtained must be considered satisfactory and if anything decidedly m advance of rates ruling at recent sales. Prices were: One cow (guaranteed free from calf) £6 12s 6d, one do. £6 lss, one heifer (small) £5 ss, one do. £5 7s 6d, one cow £4 ss, one steer £.4. Store Pens.—The entry m the store pens was chiefly made up with cows m profit and due to calf, find for the former prices obtained were by no means satisfactory. -Five head of young cattle m forward condition sold uncommonly well, but the sale otherwise was dragging, and the auctioneers experienced difficulty m effecting sales. Ppfcps were as follows: One cow (aged) £1 10s, 5 18-month to 2-year-old steers £2 14s Gd each, one bull £2, one cow (springing) £$, passed m; 1 springer £5, cow m fujl profit (well bred) £7, one do. £6, passed m■; cow 'm calf 355, cow m profit £4 ss, cow m full profit £3, cow and calf £3 12s 6d, calves 12s each.
