IMMIGRATION.
WELLINGTON, February 26. Sir Joseph Ward has sent a cablegram to the High Commissioner asking him to report by cable relative to the immigration to New Zealand that has been carried on outside the High commissioner's office, and to ascertain whether the shinning companies are employing anyone on commission; and, if go, do they obtain a class of immigrants different to that which the High Commissioner is obtaining assisted passages for; also to state whether the shipping companies are giving reduced passages to those who are recommended by private people to come to the dominion. The Premier has also added that a class of immigrant, is coming r'to the country not at present required" in the dominion.
