SOUTH ISLAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

CHRISTCHURCH, February 26. The fifth annual meeting of the South Island Rifle Association opened j at the Redeliffs range, Christchurch, yesterday, in fine weather. The entries were smaller than at any previous meeting of the Association, numbering only seventy-nine. As the prize-list was based on an entry of 100, there will be a small reduction in the prizes. The public school cadets had ari entry of 104, which, is easily a record for the meeting. The marksmen firing in the championship matches include representatives from Hastings in the north and Invercargill in the south, as well as a largo entry from local corps. The weather conditions were good, and there was some fine scoring.. The following are the chief scores in each event.: Canterbury Match, 500 and 600 yards; ten shots at each distance.—Lieutenant C.
