ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
WANGANI'I, February 26. George Gibbons, aged twenty-two years, whoso parents reside at EoutliDunedin, was drowned in the river this morning. Deceased was cook on the river steamer Manuwai, and while that steamer was waiting at Parakino for the down boat, went for a swim. He evidently was seized with cramp, as he disappeared suddenly. The body was recovered, but life was extinct. DUNEDIN, February 26. A man named Alexander Gooan, about fifty-six years of ago, residing at Bnrnside, died suddenly to-:lay. Ht left Dunedin by train, and on arrival at Burnsido complained of foHmg unwell, and suddenly expired. Deceased had been under tr^T^ni at Dunedin Hospital for hoarl di'^-o, and only left the institution 10-dr.v. AVELLINGTON; February 27. At the inquesr on thr<body of John AVakelin, who died as the result of a fall from a tram car. the verdict was: "That the cause H' death was concu.s- ---| sion of the brain, brought about by the deceased falling on weed blocks, through stepping oil" a car; no blame being attachable to anyone."
