St. Patrick's Sports Association.
A Commiitee meeting of the St Patrick's Sports Association was held last evening, the following gentlemen were in attendance —Messrs Porter (chairman), J. Murphy, I). Moriarty, D. G. Taylor, P. D. Wilson, J. Thorn, and J. Moriarty. Messrs E. Strange and J. Betts were elected as racing cyclist members of the Association. " Correspondence was received from the League of Wheelmen, notifying the Association that A. Stocker and W. Sutherland were under suspension for six and four months respectively. Mr A. J. Baxter wrote accepting the position of handicapper of athletic events for the Association's annual sports.
The secretary was instructed to procure rosettes, etc, for the Committee and officials of sports. The secretary reported having interviewed Mr G. Sutherland re his riding at the annual sports on March 17th, and informed the meeting that the great champion of champions would give an exhibition of motor pace following, behind his powerful motor, which will be driven by another champion, and an old Ashburton boy, Mr Alf. Huston.
It was stated that the work of surveying the track for the running events will in all probability be commenced daring the coming week. ,■- , The chairman was appointed to interview the Mayor and explain to him the danger ef having the posts in the straight so near the edge of the track, and to endeavour to have them removed back to a safe distance from same.
The matter of competitors' tickets was left in the hands of the Secretary.
