.1. A. Blank, Truant officer, charged Fred Parkin that his child had failed to atterd Bchool, during the weeks ending February sth and 12th last.

Mr Blank said thifc constant attempts had been made, by notice and otherwise, to induce defendant to send his child to school. The girl wii3 twelve and a half years of age and had only passed the first standard. She had not been to school for the past six months. Her parents were in a comfortable position and lived near the school, and, on being remonstrated with, had announced their intention of not sending the child to school in the future. A fine of £1 was imposed, His Worship stating that the defendant evidently intended to defy the law on the matter.
