VOLCANIC ERUPTION IN TONGA
Auckland, October 5. The s.e. Arawata arrived at Bnsael this morning from Fiji. She reports that the island of Maafu in the Tonga Gr-np has hnrsr oat as an active volcano. Tiro thirds of the island has disappeared and the remai’ing portion (a covered with volcame Many lives are reported to be lost The a.a. Sava was chartered by the Tongan G vernment to visit the scene tf the eruption.
