Translation 12th Decr. 1848 To Governor Grey Friend greeting this is my address to you - the laws of Wangaehu, of Turakina and of Rangitikei have been made straight ready for delivery into the hands of Mr McLean that is into your hands. Friend put the thing together and let the whole be paid for at once. These lands are large and sacred lands My [?] thought is this, that it should remain with you with regard to the Payment thereof. Let £2000 be paid for the land - the land is very large. It will take two months to survey the Boundary. This [?] great indeed - one of the boundaries is at Manawatu. Friend give not the payment [?] of our land to Rangihaeota [?] and Taratoa - be cautious and let not the other Cheifs deceive you - if you give the payment of our land to those other people it will cause us much grief - better that its to be given to the people of Wangaehu of Turakina and of Rangitikei Manawatu and the people on this side.
