The natives at the Ngamotu Pah were making enquiries as to the lands; and whether they would be forced to settle upon lands that would be pointed out for them by the Europeans. I told them that such lands as were not occupied by Europeans, and had not been fairly purchased, would remain in the hands of the native owners.
