4 Akuhata 1850 Te Raiomiti, Waikaio E koro, e Te Makarini, Tena koe. Kua tae atu ahau ki a Te Waka ki te korero i tau kupu ki a ia i te wa o nga ra. Ka ui atu ahau ki a ia. Ka ki mai ia e tohe tonu ana, a, nana ano i tuku mai. Ka ki mai ia kia tae mai koe, ka korero ai tatou. Me taku hoki, ka whakaaro ahau ki tokorua pakeke ko Te Waka ki runga ki te whenua o nga Pakeha, ['ranei' crossed out] Maori, Pakeha. E tama, ko te kau nei, e pouri ahau e tu maeke ana i te whakamahinga, no reira i whakakino ai nga Pakeha, no konei ahau i mea kia hokona e rima ano pauna. Mau e tuhi mai. Ko te whakaaro hoko whenua i au e mau tonu ana i nga ra tiaki a te Atua, i te tama, i te wairua. Kua rite te timera, tahi tekau ma rua pana [pauna] tekau herini. E mea ana ahau ki te hoko kau. Na tou hoa aroha, na Hone Ropiha 4 August 1850 Te Raiomiti, Waikaio Sir, McLean, Greetings. I have been to Te Waka to put your word to him about the date. I asked him, and he said that he still objects and has made it known. He said that when you come, then we all can talk. As for me, I think of two stubborn individuals, Te Waka living on the land of the Pakeha, and Maori and Pakeha. Young man, the cow here, I'm sad that it stands cold in the field, which is probably the reason for the Pakeha disapproving, and so I said it should be sold for another £5. Write to me about it. The idea of selling land remains with me in these days of the care of God, the Son and [Holy] Ghost. The chimney is done, [for] £12 10s. I suggest the cow be sold. From your good friend, from Hone Ropiha [Note following refers]
