The reason for the Pakeha staying, I agree with; for the Pakeha to go [rather] let things remain the way they were when they came to settle. If he brings me goods over the years, he cannot do anything else because I and my children - Te Manihera, Te Re Pukikura, Te Wikiriwa Mokau - have rights here and will exercise them. But, men, for the moment the problem for us all are the Pakeha of Te Warepouri; the war goes on but when it ends then peace will prevail. Why should I be defeated by the Pakeha? I remember taking care of this place for my parents and the Pakeha. But if the result is that we all have to fight on account of the Pakeha, so be it.
