28 December 1849 Friend, Governor, Hear what I have to say. Patea is the beginning of the payment. Listen, that land is mine, from my ancestor, from Rauru, his son was Rahiri the elder, his daughter Tapiukura, Hine Kiore, and her descendant is Matakatea, who lives at Te Umuroa. You must pay for all this land of Patea. But don't you listen to Tamaiakina, who lives at Patea. You must pay for Te Umuroa, that land of mine. Another thing, Te Rewatapu is the land of my ancestor, of Tapiukura, Waiongana; that's all of the south [?]. The boundary begins at Wairuatangata, and there are Paraeroa, Waikapamuramu, Papinunuki, Waikorora, Tangapoerutu, Te Panui[?], Rapanui, Rakauura, Orawatahua[?], Poutama, Mohakarino, Harakeke, Mokau. Pay for all these lands in this sale:
