5 December 1850 Go off, my letter, to Taranaki, to McLean. Friend, McLean, Greetings to you. I have great affection for you. Sir, don't be upset about the words in my letter. You took mine in the past, later yours will come to me. Now, my [point] is from our earlier talk when I came [to you], and you said to me that you and I together would lay the boundary and all the people. Mokau did not come to you; I went to the Governor, he did not disclose [anything] but he said that you and I should go to Rangitikei and to Te Pou [?].

5 Tihema 1850 Haere ra, e taku pukapuka, ki Taranaki ki a Te Makarini. E hoa, e Te Makarini, Tena ra koe. Ka nui toku aroha ki a koe. E tama, kei pouri koe ki nga kupu o taku pukapuka. Ko taku kua riro atu i mua, no muri ko tau ka tae mai ki a au. Na, kei a taua korero ano taku e haere ana, ki ana mai koe ki a au, ma taua tahi e whakatakoto te rohe, na nga tangata katoa hoki.
