18 July 1871 My dear McLean, I forward to you my report on the working of the Native Lands Acts, but I have not completed the fair copy of the Appendix thereto, but I have a clerk employed and it will be ready in a few days - I went to the South Island towards the end of last month to visit Flax Mills, and as I then had the draft of my report nearly completed, and waiting only for some Returns to furnish figures, I left it with Mr. Cooper in case you arrived from Napier before I returned, telling him also to ascertain whether any of the other Ministers might wish to see it. I have been suffering from a cold, or should have called on you with the Report.
