Napier 4 Augt. 64 My dear Sir I received your letter of the 15 ult. in which you intimate your intention of paying this Province a visit in the course of one or two months - I need not say that I shall be delighted to see you, and if I can in any way promote your views in reference to investing as a squatter in this part of the Island it will afford me much pleasure to do so. The runs here are not on such an extensive scale as that of the Middle Island but may state that the prospects of Hawkes Bay are upon the whole more favorahle than that of most of the other Provinces, and I believe that you would find no difficulty in investing to much greater advantage than you could at Canterbury. I cannot now point out any specific investment until I hear further what your own particular views are or whether you would desire to make a purchase on which you would settle, or become proprietor of an estate to be managed for you, In the absence of such particular information as is necessary to guide me in offering you advice I must wait till I again hear from you and with kind regards to Mrs. Buckley I remain Yours very truly Donald McLean
