Left Auckland about 12 o. c. for the Thames; stood off and on at Okahu bay for Wi Hapiana who did not appear, proceeded with a favorable breeze and anchored off the Island of Pakihi where we remained all night. 14. Sailed from Pakihi and anchored in Taupo bay when Mr. McLean went on shore to meet the natives interested in the land now in course of survey at Piako. Wrote to Mr. Day acquainting him with the arrangement made with the chiefs connected with this land sailed in the afternoon and anchored in the Thames. 15. Daylight made sail and beat towards the head of the Thames 12 O.C. calm, in the evening anchored offwakatiwai. 3 large canoes from Taupo arrived. 16. Arrived off Pukorokoro landed and visited the hot springs, returned to the river where Mr. Ray and a large party of Ngati paoa
