To:- Donald McLean Wellington August 29th. 1868 Despatch from Deighton reports scouting party started to obtain enemy, Native from upper Wairoa brought word enemy still at Puke Tapu fortifying position. Party of enemy been down to Tuhi for potatoes. Plenty of potatoes at Tuhi Himiona's place. Wairoa natives strengthening pas at Matiti, Te Hatepe, Rua Tanewha, and much alarmed.
