New Plymouth Taranaki Nov. 31st. 1847. Sir, May I request the favour of your acquainting me with the nature and name of the disease which has prevailed in this district amongst the Europeans since your arrival here; and also the cases which may have come under your notice as having proved fatal. Would you also inform me whether this disease extends to the natives, and if they are subject to any constitutional complaint that generally proves fatal. I remain Sir, Your most obedient servant (Signed) D. McLean.
