Dear McLean, I wrote you a few lines this morning thinking that the Tyne was about to sail, as she does not leave until this Evening I am enabled to forward by her a report of this days meeting. All the old hands consider the meeting satisfactory but I am sorry to say many of the Townspeople are dissatisfied and consider themselves too much at the mercy of the natives. They wish to be armed and organized etc. a public is to be held this Evening and I am invited to attend, and expect a jolly evng. You complain of my last note being very you must know that I wrote a long note to the private Secretary, and did not consider it necessary to report more fully to you, as I was not certain of your being at N. Plymouth. Col. Wyatt and myself are on good terms, we always consult one another. Believe me dear McLean, Yours faithfully, D. S. Durie I have offered my services to the Govt. (?) in case they are required in a military point of view. D.S.D. With regard to Maher affair I have revoked the Warrant and will make everything regular next Friday when I hold my Court D.S.D.
