Napier 8th May 1866 My dear McLean The man Joseph Williams has been at me again and says he cannot any longer attend to the old man Clucas at the bush who wants more attention than he can bestow. He will speak to you himself - Hearing there may be some chance of the Scab spreading downwards from Poverty Bay by native causes and whaleboats etc. would it not be well to appoint a Boundary Inspector with a nominal Salary only? Such a man is George Walker who lives at Mahia and could prevent any person introducing sheep from Poverty via the Coast. Yours very truly Joseph Rhodes
