Turner; and am instructed to transmit herewith copy of a letter which has already been addressed by the Defence Minister to the Officer Commanding at Napier, conveying to Captain Tanner the thanks of the Government for zeal and patriotism shewn by him, and the Troops under his command, in so readily responding to your call for aid, and proceeding on service to Poverty Bay.
