Sir, I have the honour to acquaint you that I find several of the settlers are anxious to select land in the Block which has been recently acquired from the Taranaki natives, as reported in my letter No. 47/10 of this day's date. I am therefore anxious to know if His Excellency the Governor wishes me to place it at the disposal of the Company's Agent, or whether he may instruct me to do so under any particular conditions. I have the honour to remain etc., etc., etc., (Signed) Donald McLean. Inspector of Police. To:- The Honourable The Colonial Secretary.
