Turanganui November 24th, 1868 10 a.m. My dear Cooper, I enclose you Keke's note he is up at the front. I cant yet learn exactly how we are going on with the fighting, our men came on the enemy suddenly, a camp of Tents, oxen, sheep etc. A few earthworks thrown up by the enemy but what extent I cannot say. Hope to heaven it may turn out well. If Ngatiporou comes up quickly on the enemies rear this must completely smash him. The place is about 35 mile from this place and must be near the Wangaroa or Hungaroa as it seems to be pronounced, on the Wairoa River. Our loss at this time is 2 killed and 12 wounded am making preparations for Hospital accommodation Yours truly Charles Westrup
