Waiapu Sept. 5th 1873 Dear McLean I put this under cover to Mokena to whom and yourself old Hohepa Mohi's father in law has written on the subject of his sons money -- The lad was for some years with Major Fraser and died at Taupo leaving some money, how much is uncertain -- Last year seeing his name in the Curator's return at Napier I made enquiries of Mr. Tylee but was told that the money had been paid to some other Native of a similar name -- It is hard that old Hohepa should lose it -- I have done all I can for him -- Perhaps Locke might be able to find out something about it -- Everything is going on quietly here -- The Natives all hard at work and very few hakaris food being rather scarce. When the "Luna" is next sent up this Coast will you allow her to call for my dear old woman who is not at all well as I should wish -- I should like to get her as far as Napier for medical advice but hitherto there has been no chance -- Yours ever J. H. Campbell
