Police Barracks. January 8, 1850. Dear Sir, I despatch the bearer Hakopa with a horse to "Mimi" in the hope he may meet and assist your Excellency and party. Lady Grey, Miss Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Page and Master Pitt landed here from the Brig at 11 a.m. there was a heavy surf on which broke over the boat and gave the ladies a disagreable wetting damaging some boxes of clothes fortunately no further injury has been sustained and I trust Lady Grey and her companions who are all at Government House will soon find themselves quite comfortable. The Brig is laying off and on to await your Excellency's instructions. The Attorney-General will probably meet your Excellency having left here this morning for Auckland. I remain, Your Excellency's Very obed. servt., Donald McLean.
