Napier September 3rd. 1872. Dear Sir, I purpose leaving to-morrow for Mahia, to enquire into several land transactions; and on my return I will do myself the honour of writing you on the state of the natives. I have not applied to the Government for formal permission to leave Napier, as you have allowed me discretionary powers in attending to business under the Frauds Act; and as I will only be away about a week or 10 days. I have just returned from holding a two days' enquiry at Tongoio. I am, Sir, Yours obediently (Signed) Hanson Turton. To:- The Honourable Donald McLean. Wellington.
