My dear Sir, Caption Norman called yesterday afternoon and wished very much to see you, which is impossible as he returns to New Plymouth today at 12 o.c. to bring up some more of the women and children. Things begin to look very unpleasant there and the boldness of the natives is astonishing. Hurford an artillery man and young Harria have lost their lives as you will see by the paper which is full of news from the sear of war all of which will tend to bring upon us the hottest summer New Zealand has ever yet experienced. I could not get to the Ho last night and can give you no idea of the proceedings except that A. Hadfield caught it again. Yours faithfully, J. Rogan 8 Augt/60
