Napier January 6th. 1869 Dear Mr. McLean, Colonel Lambert has received all my orders, which state I am to go to the Wairoa, and to be in Command there. Captain Saunders holding a Commission senior to mine, and which Mr. Richmond has not thought of, will prevent my following out his wishes unless you give me power to take the whole Command, as ordered. I was made Captain unattached on December 13th. 1868. I remain, dear Mr. McLean Yours sincerely (Signed) A.W. Corfield. Capt. unattached. P.S. I should have called on you, but Colonel Lambert informed me that there was no occasion to go. (Signed) A.W.C.
