Tauranga 2nd Novr. 70 My dear Sir, Since writing to you this morning I received the following in a private note from Major Mair. "Nepia Toki who seperated from Te Kooti some months since, and a small party are up Waireka, he sent in to ask about terms and I have just written telling him to surrender and trust to the clemency of the Government - I expect he will be in by the 5th." Mr. Hamlin has just returned from Taupo and informs me that, a considerable number of Tahau's party at Patatere, including some of the Chatham Island prisoners, are about to surrender unconditionally. At Major Mair's request I have purchased 9 tons of potatoes and forwarded them to the Uriweras at the Putere. I remain my dear Sir, Yours very truly, W. Moule The Hon. D. McLean, Native & Defence Minister, WELLINGTON.
