Napier Oct. 7, 1868. Sir, I have just ascertained that there has been rather a disagreement between Tareha and Karatiana -- the latter pitched into Your Honor and Tareha for not having advised the Ministry to carry on the warfare agt. the exprisoners -- to what extent did the arguments proceed I do not know -- only that Karaitiana retd. to Pakowai and Renata went home to Omahu. In the face of this dispute a request has been sent to Karaitiana to enroll 15 natives for the Mounted Constabulary singling him out from the other tribes, a proceeding which is sure to increase their jealousy. Trusting Your Honor will not think I have too far trespassed upon your time -- I have the honor to be Sir Your most obt. svt. Geo. Thos. Fannin. Sup. Clerk. His Honor Donald McLean Esq. Wellington.
