Auckland Feby. 6th. 1846. Dear McLean, I have only just now heard privately that our Department is to be done away with at the end of the quarter viz. 31 of March. I write to give you this earliest intimation but as you will in all probability see the Governor you will get apprized of it by him as soon as I get the official letter I will write you officially upon it in the meantime you may have an opportunity of arranging something at New Plymouth for yourself or you may engage with the Governor in some other way as
