Fort Galatea, July 13th 1872 My Dear Sir, I enclose you a letter I received from Capt. Carr's father I have written to him suggesting that the remains be removed to Poverty Bay and be buried where Major Biggs and so many others are and I write to ask your permission to go some time in the summer to Pa Puni for the purpose of removing the remains if my suggestion should meet with Mr. Ellisons views - I purpose taking four men with me and going via Maungapawhatu I could do it in a fortnight from the time I left here - I have my men at road work except the men here who are unable to do anything till I get bullocks to get the timber out from the bush - The men at Te TeKo and those on the road between here and there have been hindered very much lately by the very bad weather we have had - The natives here are all very quiet and are giving no trouble only one section of the Uriwera have returned to their old homes that is the Patuheuheu tribe - Hapurona and party say they will not return till something has been settled about Te Kooti as they are afraid that he will get men and try and come through this way again - Hapurona and Hamiora are very anxious to do everything in their power to assist Govt. they say when they return they will commence the Ahikereru road at once - Believe me to remain Yours truly George Preece
