Letter from Sir George Grey, to Donald McLean Esq., dated January 2nd. 1852. Government House, Wellington. 2nd. January 1852. My dear McLean, Would you mention to Mr. Strang that I am still so unwell that I am not able to attend the funeral to-day; and that it is with the greatest regret that I thus find myself precluded from paying the last sad tribute of respect to his wife; and of, at the same time, evincing my regard for his worth. I feel that it would be vain to attempt to offer any consolation at present. I shall therefore only ask you to give my kindest remembrances to Mr. Strang, and to Mrs. McLean; and to believe me, - faithfully yours, (Signed) G. Grey.
