Letter from H.T. Kemp to Donald McLean Esq. dated 18th. January 1857 Waimate Bay of Islands 18th. January 1857 My dear McLean, I drop a hurried line on the eve of another journey, to ask you, to be so kind as to cause the to be forwarded, as soon as it can be procured. Besides what I have myself advanced, there are parties waiting to be paid, and I think they have given good credit. The Government will find it much to their advantage to make small advances in the shape of a little ready money. It is very difficult to raise in these inland places; and nothing is to be done without the , especially where the natives are concerned. I hope you will do the best you can, and you will know that I would not trouble, if I were not . Believe me yours very sincerely (Signed) H.T. Kemp. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
